Vollee, a company that has figured out how to stream PC games to mobile phones, announced the planing on rolling out technology which makes it possible to play the game Second Life on 3G handsets which will open in May 2008.
This does seem like a tall order, with Second Life being very graphics intensive. It would require a LOT of streaming data.
The Vollee Second Life service lets residents explore, interact and communicate online via their 3G enabled phone. Of course, the movement is done via the keypad after a logging in. Even new players can take a dip in Second Life via the same connection.
It is noteworthy that this company is trying, and that it got someone from Linden Lab, the publisher of Second Life, to offer a quote for the release. That implies coordination between the two companies, and that always makes something like this more likely to have been thought
out.
