If you usually forget to recharge your phone and have to spend time away from power sockets ,you can use this phone.
Philips has demonstrated their new Xenium 9@9j cell phone which used an AAA (Energizer rechargeable) battery as a battery backup during Mobile World Congress 2008 event in Barcelona. The phone is the result of a partnership between Philips and the Israeli company Techtium, which was first announced in March last year.
It has a standard lithium ion rechargeable battery, but it has the option to put a AAA battery in, and it’ll give you three hours extra talktime. If your lithium ion battery goes dead, the backup battery kicks in, and starts to charge the lithium ion battery, so you can start using the phone straight away.
Although it increases its size, those extra hours are useful. The Philips 9@9j will be available in April for a yet undisclosed price. But hey, it isn’t just Philips doing this kind of thing. Nokia will soon be launching an external charger using the same technology, so you’ll connect it to your phone to have the same effect. It’s called the Nokia Extra Power DC-8, and will use AA batteries.
