he Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization,CSIRO,is an Australian reaserch institude. This science agency recently recieved a grant to develop a jacket that generates its own electrical power wich is called “Flexible Integrated Energy Device” (FIED).
CSIRO principal research scientist Dr. Best said “As the person wearing the garment moves, the vibrations they create can be harvested and channeled into recharging the battery or powering plug-in electronic device or devices.”
The jacket has two major sections, the section placed on the shoulder area is power-generation part of the outfit, which uses piezoelectric materials that continually generate power when squeezed and deformed. The blue areas on the front and back of the vest contain lightweight and flexible batteries to store the charge.
Commercial applications could include jackets that could recharge portable devices such as cell phones and MP3 players.Dr.Best hopes that in near future,This jacket can also helps the soldier to power their high-tech combat equipment without having to carry around heavy conventional batteries.
But still two major problems remain unsolved. One, the jacket cannot be noticeably heavier than a standard heavy jacket, and two, it must be able to survive the rigors of the washer and dryer.
